Food for Fines! March 29 – April 25

Monday, April 11, 2016

Thank you to all those who donated a non-perishable food item to have Library fines forgiven. Food for Fines ran March 29 – April 25, 2016 on all campuses. Penticton Campus Library received enough donations to fill a flatbed trolley and food items were donated to the Women’s Centre on the Penticton Campus. Salmon Arm campus finished with a full Rubbermaid delivery tub, which will soon be delivered to Second Harvest or the Salvation Army Food Bank in Salmon Arm. The Kelowna Campus Library delivered three large boxes of food to the Kelowna Community Food Bank. Thank you to all students who supported this important initiative!

Each food item paid off $2 in Library fines, to a maximum of $20. All types of materials were eligible including, books, DVDs, videos, and CDs. Food for Fines did not apply to overdue, lost or damaged items.

Donated items may have included:Food

  • Meal in a can (chili, stew, soup)
  • Canned and dry soups
  • Canned legumes (beans, chick peas)
  • Pasta (macaroni, spaghetti, lasagne)
  • Tomato and pasta sauce
  • Rice
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Cereal
  • Tuna and other canned meat
  • Healthy granola bars
  • Peanut butter
  • Boost/Canation Breakfast/Ensure
  • Baby food/formula

Any OC library user, whether student or community user, could ‘cash-in’ with non-perishable or pre-packaged food items. Food could not be cashed in against future fines. Previously paid fines were not refunded in exchange for food items. Please contact OC Library staff with further enquiries.
