Welcome new and returning students!

computerWelcome  to your library! The library collection includes approximately 200,000 books, videos, government documents, journals, electronic full text resources and other materials to support the programs and courses at Okanagan College. Through the Library website, users can also find articles, statistics, and government documents.

Library Hours

Hours vary depending on the campus and the time of year. During peak times all libraries are open seven days a week. Hours are posted to the Library website and updates are posted to our blog.

Accessing Resources

Students and staff can access library resources from on and off-campus. When accessing from off-campus, your OC ID number (300 number/barcode) is your username, and your last name is your password. Students with two last names may require a hyphen (-).

Chat IconThe Library Catalogue will help you find books, e-books, and media such as streaming videos and DVDs. OCtopus is the Library’s search engine and will allow you to search and access articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers, as well as books and e-books, streaming media, reports, and more. Request, renew, and place holds on items from within the Library Catalogue. With the exception of materials on reserve, items may be returned to any OC Library. Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk of the Library from which you borrowed. Students and staff can also utilize resources from UBCO library. Visit your library circulation desk to learn more.

You can also browse the electronic resources available through the Library. The Library’s e-resources listing can be narrowed down by subject or content types. The listing provides access to all the Library’s databases, reputable open access websites and databases, electronic reference titles, and streaming video collections.

Computers in the Library provide access to the Internet and Library resources, as well as an area to save your work on the OC network. Never save your work to the computer desktop. Students may bring their own USB stick to work from. To login to the computers the username is your OC ID number, and your initial password is your birthdate (mmddyy). You will be prompted to change your password after the first login.

If a resource is unavailable from OC Library but it is available from another library, an inter-library loan request can be placed. This service is free of charge for OC students and staff. More information on ILL is available here.

Getting Help

AgreementLibrarians and library staff are here to help! Never feel afraid to approach a library staff member with your questions. Librarians are available on all campuses. Stop in at your campus library reference desk to meet your campus librarian, or contact the liaison librarian for your subject area to book a one-on-one research help session. You can also email your questions to the Library.

Research guides (also known as LibGuides or course guides) are available for almost all subject areas, as well as a considerable number of courses. Research guides provide guidance for the research process, including links to key resources and databases, citation help, and hints to help you efficiently find the best information.

When a librarian cannot be reached, AskAway is a live chat reference service that is available to students seven days a week, Sunday – Thursday 10 am – 9 pm, and Friday – Saturday 11 am – 5 pm. This is a great tool for getting assistance with citations or for getting started with your research.

Mobile

Mobile PhoneThe Library has a mobile friendly website. This allows you to access key library web pages, as well as search OCtopus and library databases from your mobile device or tablet. Mobile friendly research guides are also accessible. Your device should automatically redirect you to the mobile site, or you can view it here.

If you are trying to access the wireless Internet from your mobile device you may want to use the Eduroam network. Your username is your OC ID number @myokanagan.bc.ca (for example, 300xxxxxx@myokanagan.bc.ca), and your password is the same used to access computers on campus.
