Sept/Oct Deakin Newsletter: Puffin is 70!

The September/October edition of the Deakin Newsletter of Children’s Literature is now available! This edition celebrates the 70th anniversary of Puffin Books.

Puffin multi-books Many people have fond memories reading materials published by Puffin books. If you read the paperback version of the Hobbit, there is a good chance it was a Puffin edition! The newsletter features links to sites with activities and downloads exclusive to this historic event, as well as a feature article celebrating the 70th anniversary. Some background on Puffin books:

“The first Penguins were hatched in 1935, the colour indicating fiction (orange), crime (green), and biography (blue). Each carried the imprint of a little penguin, each cost sixpence. In twelve months the company had sold three million paperbacks.” To read more visit the Deakin Newsletter of Children’s Literature on the Salmon Arm campus website.

Other features in this edition include the newly released and widely popular title “It’s a book” by Lane Smith. A book-loving ape and a tech-savvy donkey have a conversation on reading in a digital age. See the video below for a preview!

The Deakin Newsletter features 16 titles, including classics from Puffin Books, picture books such as ‘the Heart and the Bottle’ by author Oliver Jeffers,  non-fiction picture books and a number of featured websites.
