The Okanagan College APA style guide has been updated. If you received a handout from an instructor, the library, or any other place on campus it is no longer current. To avoid citation errors, please visit the APA citation guide page on the library website to download the updated version.  Print copies of the PDF will be available in your library shortly. This guide is brief and students should refer to the print manuals available in their library for further clarification.

You can find the print guide in the reference section of your campus library or at the call number BF 76.7 .P83 2009

The APA guide changes are due to recent updates to the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Some key changes to be aware of are:

  • If an article or e-book has a DOI (digital object identifier) you must use it
  • If your article or e-book does not have a DOI, you must link to the journal  homepage or e-book publisher homepage
  • If your citation has 8+ authors, provide the first 6, then ellipses (…), then the last author
  • Place of publication information: for US publication information give the city name in full and the abbreviation for the state, for publishers outside the US give the city name in full and the country name in full

If you have citation questions feel free to ask a librarian at your campus library.
